twenty-the-HER-teen (2013) – The time of the Woman!

Oh Womaniya! Ah Ah Womaniya!

Simple as a screw – that holds the machine tight
Beautiful as a moon – to lighten up the dark night
Delicate as a string – that controls the flying kite
Mighty as a lion – but may seldom be in sight…
She is the WOMAN. Woman of 2013!

The year seems to have started on a bitter note, with ugly incidents of rapes being heard from the nook and corner of the country. Shameful, isn’t it? It feels to be highly patriotic to call the country our Motherland, but, where an avatar of our Mother, the Lady-hood, is the least respected.

Salute to the brave heart who lost her life! But, thanks to all our youth and our nation, who have woken up – all by a Woman!

2013 seems to be the year of the HER! And I, being of the opposite gender, have no dilemma in shouting this!
A slap to everyone who feels she can’t do it. Bear in mind – She is going to outrightly overpower you!

Starting on a high note – Angela Merkel is named as the second Most Powerful Person of the planet, in the Forbes’ 2012 list. She is the Chancellor of the German nation and heads a council of 27 countries of the European Union. Whoa!

From India, Sonia Gandhi stands at No. 12 in the Forbes’ 2012 list of the Most Powerful Women. With elections coming near, Sonia has played a decent game – Her party has declared that her son would be the next Prime Ministerial candidate. Wait and watch I say. That’s just the game, which could turn over and make Sonia the second woman PM too. Who knows?!

Moving on to Sports and Entertainment. The infamous Lance Armstrong, who accused people of drug intake during his cycling reign and who was recently banned from all athletic events by the U.S. Anti-Doping committee, could never admit that he was actually guilty. Only a woman could get the truth out of him. Lance Armstrong was at Oprah Winfrey’s show recently, where he inadvertently admitted of being guilty of everything that was filed against him. That’s Woman power!

One of CNN-IBN’s Indian of the Year 2012 – Special Achievement award was bestowed to the Agni project’s DRDO team. It was Tessy Thomas, the Project Director for Agni-V missile in Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) that headed this team. She is the first woman scientist to head a missile project in India. Following her, many girls of this era would choose Research as an option too!

How can I forget the boxing queen – MC Mary Kom? Five-time World Boxing champion, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships. She is the only Indian woman boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics and she won us the bronze medal in the 51 Kg Category. She is also ranked as the No. 4 in the AIBA World Women’s Ranking for the Flyweight category. Way to go woman!

No field has been left untouched by this being! She has the might! To all my fellow-men, I say – Gather up and behold the power to throw you down, lest you respect her. Not being hypothetical, but 2013 seems to bring in much more of this avatar and will not bring them as surprises, but they would stand as the obvious!

And as Shaggy sings in his song (Strength of a woman!) –
“She can take you on a high
Be your comfort when you cry
But if you look into her eyes
You’ll see the strength of a woman
Strength of a woman”

Signing Off,
Ally
